Member of ACGME International (ACGME-I)’s leadership attended the 8th National Medical Education Conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam in November 2024 as presenters and exhibitors. With a conference theme of “Strategic Alliance: Health Education and Professional Practice,” the medical education community of Vietnam and guests from around the world gathered to discuss, learn, and foster collaboration.
ACGME-I President and Chief Executive Officer James A. Arrighi, MD and Executive Director Lorraine Lewis, EdD delivered a presentation entitled, “From A to Z: A Step-By-Step Workshop on ACGME-I Accreditation.” Graduate medical education (GME) leaders in attendance learned about the framework for and benefits of ACGME-I accreditation, heard an overview of ACGME-I requirements, and walked through the process for residency and fellowship programs to achieve ACGME-I accreditation.
The host institution for this year’s conference, VinUniversity College of Health Sciences, has been an ACGME-I-accredited Sponsoring Institution since 2023, with three accredited residency programs: internal medicine; pediatrics; and surgery. Drs. Arrighi and Lewis also met with the Sponsoring Institution’s leadership, including program directors of currently-accredited programs and those of other programs planning to apply for Initial Accreditation.
“We were honored once again to contribute and participate in the National Medical Education Conference of the Vietnam Association for Medical Education,” said Dr. Arrighi. “The medical education community in Vietnam is vibrant and visionary, and we look forward to many years of collaboration and partnership in improving residency and fellowship education and training for physicians in the country.”
“It is clear that medical education in Vietnam is heading in the right direction under the leadership of visionary and dedicated physician educators,” added Dr. Lewis.
Alongside its partner from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, ACGME Global Services, ACGME-I also exhibited at the conference, with the joint booth being visited by many medical education professionals learning more about the work of both entities.
