ACGME-I leaders recently traveled to Indonesia to strengthen ties with the country’s graduate medical education (GME) community and to take part in the 2nd International Conference on Advancing Postgraduate Medical Education, held on 27-28 August in Jakarta.
As part of the opening day of the conference, a ceremony was held featuring the six Sponsoring Institutions that recently achieved ACGME-I accreditation. After delivering a keynote address on ACGME-I and GME accreditation, ACGME-I President and Chief Executive Officer James A. Arrighi, MD presented plaques confirming the new accreditation status to representatives of each institution.
“It was an honor to welcome the six Sponsoring Institutions to the ACGME-I community during this ceremony,” said Dr. Arrighi. “They worked tremendously hard to be the first in Indonesia to achieve Institutional Accreditation... [and] “we look forward to working together with Indonesia toward our mutual goal of advancing specialist education and training to better serve population health.”
During the two-day conference, sponsored by Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, ACGME-I Vice President Halah Ibrahim, MD, MEHP took part in several panel discussions, speaking about building institutional foundations for high-quality GME, developing and empowering clinical educators, and the significance and opportunities in medical education research. Topics related to well-being were addressed by Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Chief Education Officer Timothy P. Brigham, MDiv, MS, PhD.
The visiting delegation also met with many high-ranking officials, including Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, as well as GME leaders from across Indonesia.
