ACGME-I policy is to conduct a regular review of Requirements. To that end, the Advanced Specialty Requirements for both Family Medicine and Pediatrics recently underwent a scheduled major revision. These revisions are effective 1 July 2026.
Additionally, a focused revision of the Advanced Specialty Requirements for Obesity/Bariatric Medicine was completed to allow obstetrics and gynecology and preventive medicine/community medicine programs eligibility to sponsor the fellowship, and to allow graduates of those residency programs eligibility to enter the fellowship. These revisions are effective immediately.
Revised Advanced Specialty Requirements (in both regular and tracked changes formats), application forms, and FAQs are now available on the Specialties pages as linked above.
Address any questions about the revisions to ACGME-I Executive Director Dr. Lorraine Lewis: llewis@acgme-i.org.
