ACGME-I Celebrates Retirement of Lori Lewis and Names Chris Fox as New Executive Director
ACGME International (ACGME-I) announces the forthcoming retirement of long-time Executive Director Lorraine C. Lewis, EdD, who will be succeeded by Chris Fox, PhD. The transition will become official on 1 July 2026. Dr. Lewis will assist in the transition through mid-August.
Dr. Fox comes from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), where she currently serves as an executive director, overseeing the Review Committees for Plastic Surgery, Surgery, and Thoracic Surgery. She brings a wealth of experience in working with diverse peer-review bodies and is eager to work with the international graduate medical education (GME) community in this new role. Dr. Fox holds a PhD from the University of Missouri.
“I am excited to welcome Dr. Fox to the ACGME-I team,” said ACGME-I President and CEO James Arrighi, MD. “She brings tremendous talent and enthusiasm to this role, and look forward to introducing her to our global community.”
The ACGME-I team also takes this opportunity to thank Dr. Lewis for her immeasurable contributions to international GME through her dedicated service leading the accreditation activities of ACGME-I over most of its history. Since joining ACGME-I in 2011, she has positively impacted the education and training of thousands of residents and fellows across 15 countries, working closely with hundreds of GME professionals across 37 institutions and more than 200 programs over 15 years.
“Dr. Lewis has been part of ACGME-I since [almost] its inception. Her leadership has been critical to shaping our organization. She is known and respected across the globe for her contributions to medical education, care, and compassion,” said Dr. Arrighi. “We wish her a wonderful retirement!”
For members of the ACGME-I community active on ACGME-I Social, there will be upcoming opportunities to get to know and interact with Dr. Fox. As Dr. Lewis has been the primary point of contact for most members of the ACGME-I community since the start of their accreditation journeys, there will also be an opportunity to share tributes to her on ACGME-I Social.
